A is for ‘Apprenticeship’, B is for ‘BrightStart’, C is for ‘Career’ and D is for ‘Deloitte’
Deloitte offers an alternative path to university with apprenticeship and gap-year programmes.
With A-level results being announced today (15 August 2019), Deloitte’s BrightStart higher apprenticeship programme is an option for school leavers to make the jump straight into the world of professional services and start to earn while they continue to learn. The programme offers 300 students the chance to gain professional qualifications while being fully immersed in a job helping to solve some of Deloitte’s clients’ most challenging problems.
Deloitte hires over 1,500 students per year from its schools and undergraduate entry routes, into 22 office locations across the UK.
Paul Schofield, Deloitte Practice Senior Partner for the South East East said: “Today is a significant day for hundreds of thousands of students who now can decide what to do next. Some may want to kick off their career with an apprenticeship programme, such as our BrightStart Higher Apprenticeship programme.
“A Deloitte apprenticeship can be the first step in an exciting career, working on projects that have a real impact to our clients’ businesses. We teach all the skills and knowledge needed to do the job.”

Toby Carr, BrightStart apprentice
Toby (20) is a BrightStart higher apprentice at Deloitte based in Cambridge. When he was at school, Toby was keen to pursue a career in accountancy but not via the University route.
Toby gained a place on the Deloitte’s BrightStart Higher Apprenticeship programme in Cambridge, specialising in audit. He started the programme in September 2017 and says:
“When considering my options into work, my teachers suggested schemes with organisations such as Deloitte which offered me a career path whilst studying – now two years into my apprenticeship, I’ve enjoyed a great mix of study, client interaction and have a particular interest in the technology industry.”
Paul Schofield added:
“There are many exciting choices for young people to embark on their careers. However, attitudes to jobs are changing fast and our recent Millennial Survey found that 56% of Gen Zs are hopeful they will reach their career ambitions. Priority should be placed on building their skills and continuous training to keep this generation engaged. Government Minister for Children and Families, Kemi Badenoch, said:
“Really well done to everyone getting their A-level results today. If you haven’t decided on your next move, I would encourage everyone to consider an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships offer the chance to learn new skills while you get paid and get on the path to a successful career.
“It is great to see global firms like Deloitte investing in a range of high-quality apprenticeship opportunities for young people in exciting and rewarding professions including management consultancy, data science and finance.”
Deloitte is also launching Pathfinders, a new programme for gap year students, starting 9 September 2020. Twenty students will join Deloitte between school and university for a nine month technology-based placement in Deloitte’s consulting or tax practice. They will have technology-focussed roles, either through working with technology clients or contributing to digital projects.
Agarwal adds: “Pathfinders is a new and exciting way of bringing talented students into Deloitte and filling the growing skills shortage in software development. We want to provide the opportunity for students to learn new, in-demand skills.
“We want to create a more diverse workforce, bringing strong representation of society into the workplace and a diversity of thought. We’re looking for people from a range of backgrounds and with different experiences.”
