The Board has responsibility to oversee the management of Cambridge Ahead. All Foundation Members and a minimum of 4 Full Members will be on the Board (Member Representatives) together with the Director; up to 3 Directors will be individuals appointed to the Board and they may be Honorary Members.
Chairman: Our chair is Ian Mather, who was appointed by the Board in April 2014. He succeeded the Founder Chairman, Jeremy Newsum, formerly the Executive Trustee of the Grosvenor Estate, who sat for a six-month term. Chairmen may sit for a 4 year term, maximum 2 terms.
CEO: The Chief Executive Officer is Jane Paterson-Todd, who conducts the day-to-day activities of Cambridge Ahead.
Projects Manager: Emma Peirce oversees the Project teams as Project Manager.
Executive Assistant: Amelia Cook is Executive Personal Assistant & Office Manager.
Honorary Vice Chairmen: Cambridge Ahead appoints up to 5 renowned ‘patrons’ to provide advice and support as required. See our current Vice Chairmen.
The Management Committee
The Management Committee consists of the Chairman, Director and three Board members, acting as a sub-committee of the Board.
CHAIRMAN: Ian Mather, Head of Office – Cambridge, Mills & Reeve
Ian is well known in the business community having worked in Cambridge as a lawyer since the early 80’s. He lead the office of Eversheds in Cambridge before joining Mills & Reeve, where he now heads an office of 300 people. Ian advises a number of companies in the city and nationally in the field of Employment law. Mills & Reeve is ranked by independent directories as one of the leading firms in the UK. He is a trustee of the Cambridge Arts Theatre.
Patrick McMahon, Senior Partner, Bidwells
Patrick has over 25 years of experience in the property industry, joining Bidwells in 1989 from Barclays Bank Plc. After 15 years running the Investment Team in London, he became Head of Commercial in 2007 and Senior Partner on 1st January 2010. He works with institutional investors, developers, property companies, private equity funds and occupier clients on a wide range of projects.
Nicholas Bewes, MD, The Howard Group
Nicholas has overall responsibility to the Board and Shareholders for the management of the Howard Group of Companies encompassing the Howard Property Group and Howard Capital Partners. Prior to joining the Howard Group in 1999, Nicholas was with The BOC Group for 10 years in a variety of roles including, Change Management, Marketing & Communications, Product Development and Global Supply Management.
Duncan McCunn, Corporate Director , Barclays Bank Plc – Cambridgeshire & Eastern Region
Duncan heads up the Large Corporate team for Barclays in the Eastern Region. Barclays is proud to be Banker to some of the most important companies and institutions in the Region, including many of the members of Cambridge Ahead. Over the last 30 years in the Banking industry, Duncan has developed a personal specialism in Corporate Finance and wider Relationship Management. He lives in Cambridge, and is fully-committed to the further development of the area.
Jane Paterson-Todd, CEO
Prior to her appointment, Jane was CEO of the Chickenshed Theatre in London – a charity that encourages people from all walks of life and abilities to be part of its theatre membership. Jane’s career has spanned both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, with prior appointments including those of Group Commercial Director of Emap Conferences, Head of Development at the Barbican Art Centre, and over 11 years in national media advertising including The Telegraph, The Times and Women’s consumer magazines, Elle and Elle Decoration.
